The Nisqually Land Trust is seeking volunteers to plant native trees and shrubs at its Red Salmon Creek property near the Nisqually Delta on Friday, October 26th, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m and Saturday, October 27, 9 a.m. to noon.   The planting will help restore salmon and wildlife habitat along a tributary of Red Salmon Creek which flows into newly restored tidelands owned by the Nisqually Indian Tribe and the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge.

Volunteers should be prepared for muddy conditions and dress for the weather. Bring gardening gloves and shovels if you have them, but they will also be provided.

To get to the planting site from I-5, take Exit 116 (Mounts Road).  At the top of the exit from Tacoma, turn right and from Olympia, turn left.  Proceed about 1.3 miles along Mounts Road to the last driveway on the left before the road goes under a railroad trestle.  Park along Mounts Road and walk down the driveway to the first house, and sign in.

The planting is co-sponsored by the Nisqually Land Trust, Nisqually Indian Tribe and Pierce County Conservation District.  It is being funded by the Pierce County Community Salmon Fund.  For more information contact Linda Kunze at 360-458-1111 or nltsteward@nisquallylandtrust.org or visit www.nisquallylandtrust.org.
