About Conservation Easements

Land Donation

Donating land for permanent conservation is one of the finest legacies  you can leave for future generations.  You can ensure that the land you have cherished will be protected forever.  And the Nisqually Land Trust is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, so you might also qualify for tax benefits.

An outright donation is just one way to donate land.  You can also arrange to donate your land but continue to live on it . You can sell your property to the Land Trust at less than market value, or you can donate land in your will.  Charity gift annuities that provide income during your lifetime are yet another option.

Conservation Easements

A conservation easement is a legal agreement between a landowner and the Nisqually Land Trust that permanently limits uses of the land in order to protect its conservation values.  It allows you to continue to own and use your land and to sell it or pass it on to your heirs.  An easement provides public benefit by permanently protecting important conservation resources and may provide tax benefits to you and your heirs.

If you would more information on land donation or conservation options, please contact us by email or call (360) 458-1111.

Nisqually Land Trust Map

We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to preserve an extraordinary river and its threatened wildlife.

Rising from the meltwaters of an ancient glacier, the Nisqually River courses 78 miles through Mt. Rainier National park to its delta in the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge on Puget Sound. The Nisqually Land Trust was established in 1989 to protect wildlife and habit threatened by the consequences of rapid population growth. Today it conserves and restores nearly 1700 acres of land in the Nisqually watershed.
